An investigation has been launched after a major fire tore through a popular amusement park in the North East on Boxing Day.
Emergency services were called to the Dinosaur Cove attraction at Ocean Beach Pleasure Park in South Shields at around 7pm on Friday. The park, home to around 40 rides, attractions, and arcades, is located approximately 12 miles east of Newcastle city centre.
Fire crews battled the blaze throughout the night before leaving the scene at around 3:30am on Saturday. Tyne and Wear Fire Service (TWFS) said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined and will be investigated. Police confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
Dramatic images showed thick smoke rising from the amusement park as large sections were engulfed in flames. The fire led to the closure of several nearby roads on Friday evening while emergency services worked to contain the blaze.
A police cordon remained in place on Saturday morning, according to local reports. TWFS said it has now cleared the site and will continue to support partner agencies during the investigation.
